After five matches all postponed, the u12s season finally got underway in the first week of June! Playing against a very strong Moseley side at their second team ground, the objectives for the night were always more about development and enjoyment than seeking a highly improbable victory.

Moseley batted first and posted an excellent 144-3 thanks to some fine batting from Yasin, Ibrahim and Ethan in particular. The score could have been far greater were it not for some sharp work in the field – mentions in despatches to Ben and Bilal for being consistently alert with pick ups and backing up – which led to three run outs and several close calls. The bowlers consistently stuck to their task but were not to be rewarded this evening – noteworthy were Amy, Bilal and Praan for getting some real turn, Nathan and Jamie for continuing to bowl aggressively and Dan and Ollie for a very tight line.

Our primary goal in reply was to bat the full 20 overs. Our top four of Jamie, Anjali, Dan and Bilal were unlucky to face some very good bowling. Anjali, in particular, showed real fortitude to bat out 12 overs and provide support for Ed who hit a really fluent 38 retired. Ryan picked up the baton from Ed scoring 3 lovely boundaries before Ben, Amy and Praan saw out the last couple of overs. 79 for 6 against a very capable bowling attack was a creditable performance and all the players can be proud of their efforts with bat and ball
