Earlswood celebrate Pride.

On Sunday, ECC Women played their game against Old Elizabethan's sporting rainbow nails and pride stickers. We proudly flew the pride flag for our team photo at the end of the game. This day created a real sense of celebration, not just for our team but for us all as individuals. It was a statement that we stand unequivocally for inclusion. Indeed, days such as this have to be supported by a consistent commitment to diversity, inclusivity and an openness to learn. At Earlswood:

“We pledge to make our club a safe place for everyone to play, coach, volunteer or support.
We pledge to support each other as colleagues, friends and teammates based on character, talent and work ethic.
We pledge to treat everyone equally regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity and expression”.

Sport plays a crucial part in ensuring this message is felt by the LGBTQ+ community and implemented by all. Growing up, my teammates were my friends, my role models and my support network. These team environments shape people: they give opportunities to learn and grow, opportunities to be unashamedly yourself. This is particularly relevant at club level where the age range is often so varied. There is a power in sport to promote the celebration of all, not regardless of different identities or sexual orientations, but because of them.

Therefore, it is fundamental that sports clubs create an environment where all individuals can flourish.
